The martial art referred to as Kung Fu is extremely old, yet extremely effective. There are various different types of Kung Fu. Many of the styles mimic animals and were developed right after close study of exactly how animals fight. Alternative styles vary according to what part of China as well as in what era they were created. One particular thing is apparent and that is any style of Kung Fu is lethal when practiced by a martial arts practitioner.

Wing Chun

Wing Chun is structured on the idea that the opponent will strike, which you then absorb and retaliate. The entire philosophy of Wing Chun will take a very long time to fully comprehend, and years of practice to master. From a technical perspective, Wing Chun uses a steady and never ending forward circulation of energy which is based on the theory that a straight line is the shortest distance between two points.

Offensively, Wing Chun is about a combination of straight lines with deflecting arcs. Generally, it is really an aggressive close quarter style which pushes offensive attacks and takes the fight right to the assailant. It was originally developed by a nun and is well suited for close quarter fights. One of the first grand masters of Wing Chun was called Ip Man whose life story was told in the movie of the same name which is really one of the best kung fu movies ever made. Ip Man was perhaps most famous for teaching Bruce Lee the Win Chun Type of Kung Fu.

Praying Mantis

Over four hundred years ago, a kung fu master called Wang had a vision of a praying mantis fighting. By using a praying mantis which he captured, Wang studied the movements of the praying mantis. By mimicking the movements that he saw, he developed and founded the Praying Mantis style of Kung Fu. Wang practiced and perfected his very own martial art style by observing both offensive as well as defensive movements of the praying mantis. Praying Mantis kung fu is just as deadly as it is legendary and can be seen in many Chinese Kung Fu movies.

Monkey

It may look foolish however the reality is that Monkey style is really one of the deadliest martial arts styles on the planet. The Monkey style all started when a peaceful man named See resisted police arrest after unintentionally killing a police officer. See was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his criminal offense, where he spent all of his time viewing the prison apes. He found them appealing and watched them endlessly from his jail cell. Over his ten year prison term, he studied the way the apes moved, paying very close attention to how they defended themselves and fought one another. When he was released from jail, he adapted his style, becoming known as the Monkey Master.

These are just 3 of the hundreds of different kung fu styles that are even now practiced today. Lots of the best kung fu movies will showcase some of these exotic types of martial combat and are recommended if you have never observed them firsthand.
